Bush keeps sinking
Published on August 5, 2005 By thatoneguyinslc In US Domestic
New poll numbers were published today showing that dubya's approval ratings are dropping yet again.

Link

His overall job approval rating is at 42%. There have been previous presidents with lower scores (Nixon and Truman during their last terms for example). But the telling sign is his approval rating on his handling of the Iraq war. His rating in this department has slipped to a Johnson-like 38%.

I think the chickens are finally coming home to roost on poor dubya. His solution? Going on yet another vacation in Crawford.

Texas style *BUMP* y'all!

First, name a president who did not go on vacation.

Second, why should he care?  He is not running for re-election.  The liberals are still using the 2004 playbook.  They are not smart enough to realize he cant run for re-election.

Ipsos, an international polling firm, conducted the poll of 1,000 adults between August 1-3. It has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points

Wow. 1000 Americans tell us what the entire population thinks. I bet this is one of those polls where it's 70% democrats and 30% republicans polled.

His solution? Going on yet another vacation in Crawford.

You do realize that the President doesn't go on vacation. It's a 24 hour job no matter where you are or what you are doing.

That's why they don't win elections. Instead of worrying about ideas of their own, they just hate Bush. Nothing else matters.

Well, regardless of what playbook the liberals are playing out of, I do think that it is of some concern, if not to the President himself, it should be to the conservatives. Any Republican party member that attempts to run behind Bush in '08 will have to be influenced by Bush's ratings. It's a pretty easy step to go from saying "See what Bush did!" to "See what the Republicans did!".

Don't get me wrong, I'm a Bush supporter and generally conservative by nature. And I don't think that a President should always act in accordance with polls, either. Just saying that there is more to this than saying "So what".

On a side note, I wish I could take a vacation every time a majority of my students were unhappy with my performance. I'd start dishing out heavy homework every night!

Whip,
Yes. Richard M. Nixon

Island doggie,
If you work, you should get a vacation. But dubya has spent more time on vacation than any other president. Look it up. Also, the AP is pretty fair when it comes to their polling. They go way out of their way to have balance in their surveys. It's not like this is a MoveOn.org poll.

Guy,

Why should he care? Tell that to the parents of the 1,800 dead solders and Marines. Tell that to all the folks who have had their jobs outsourced to some third world country. Tell that to the folks who put him in the big chair. Just because you're a lame duck doesn't mean you don't have to sit in the nest.

Damn Straight Chip! I'm glad somebody got the point! Thanks!

What you fail to understand, perhaps due to your youth, is that most presidents do not govern by polls.  Clinton did.  Great presidents govern on what they feel is best for the country, and at times that may run counter to popular feelings. Note the feelings.

Note: I am not calling Bush Great.

And finally, no Nixon did not.  He resigned rather than drag the office of the presidency through an impeachment trial. Something another president was too small a person to do.

The Nixon comment was a joke, and i agree with you.

It's true that a president should not govern by polls. That's one thing that bugged me about bubba. The glaring point is how far and how fast he has fallen, and his seemingly "devil-may-care" attitude.

There's a war going on, as you righties like pointing out. I think that he should be at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave when Marines are getting killed by the dozen, and not mountainbiking around the Texas hill country.

But you yourself observed that being away from home for so long drains one's (apostrophe for Furry Canary's benefit) batteries.  Everyone needs to get recharged so they can do their job better.  Hell, I loved it when Clinton went on vacation.

on Aug 05, 2005
You're right. But how big are this guy's batteries? I wish i made $200,000 a year and could hang out at the house as much as he does... ::

on Aug 05, 2005
yes sliding % points,
How does this happen?
the elite media pounding away on him 24/7? naw to easy

The left powerless wing beating up on everything he does? naw to easy

The entire left wing obstructing everything he asks for? naw to easy.

on Aug 05, 2005
How come everybody but the Doc is trying to blame his performance on the lefties?

C'mon Mod, i know you are definately a bush supporter, but he's dropping the ball. Also, if the left wing is powerless, how can you say they're so effective?
on Aug 05, 2005

How come everybody but the Doc is trying to blame his performance on the lefties?

Oh, did I forget that? Sorry.

It is all the Loony Loopy luddite liberals fault!

on Aug 05, 2005
That's better! ::

Good to hear from you Mod!
