Well folks it's Veterans Day. The day we pay homage to all who served in defense of our country.
A lot of people pay little attention to this holiday, but not me. I come from a military family. My dad was a Marine officer for almost 25 years and served in both Korea and Vietnam. My Grandfather fought in the battle of Saipan in WW II. I never had the opportunity to serve. But i admire and respect those who choose to. I wish more people would as well. These folks sacrifice a lot to protect us. I read many posts from the loved ones of those serving now and see how difficult it can be on those they leave behind at home. I feel for them. And i hope that their husbands and wives will return to them as soon as possible.
If i can find the time, i plan to drive into DC and visit the WW II memorial today. It's my way of paying respect to those who didn't make it home. It's my way of saying thanks for all the freedoms i enjoy.
I have a little ritual i do when travelling. Whenever i see a soldier returning from the gulf in one of the airport bars, i buy them a drink and say thanks. I would like to encourage all of you to do something similar today. Wether its a beer, lunch, a handshake or just a plain old thank you. I know they will appreciate it. And i will too.
