John Edwards gives one hell of a motivational speech at the Democratic National Convention

As a rule, i really dont enjoy watching the conventions. They always come off as pretty much what they are intended to be: A big crap filled extravaganza full of meaningless promises, the usual cheerleading, and mindless speeches about how the other team is leading us all to hell in a handbasket. But i think my opinion has changed a little bit after watching the Democratic National Convention the past two nights. Oh sure the focus has been on Teresa Heinz-Kerry after her infamous "shove it" comment the other day, and i did enjoy her speech. But there were others that made more of an impression on me as a centrist democrat. Barack Obama And Vice Presidential Nominee John Edwards. I really think they both nailed it in their respective speeches. Obamas comments on the two americas really spoke to me. Senator Edwards speech was very well done, and didn't rely on the usual "pitbull" tactic that the VP nominee speech usually does by slamming the other guys, or as Dan Rather so deftly put it "Spreading the raw meat". It's refreshing to see a major political speech during the convention that speaks to the average joe, not the liberal factions or the conservatives. Just plain honest talk. It will be real interesting to see John Kerry's speech tomorrow!

Now I'm sorry I missed it. I am sure I will catch the highlights tommorow but I would have liked to have seen the whole thing. It is refreshing to have a break from the mudslinging that we usually see.

I only caught bits and pieces, but I never heard one directly negative comment towards the Bush administration. I am thrilled, especially with all the negativity coming from the republicans these days. Edwards is a heck of an orator...you can see why he was such a successful lawyer! I can't wait to hear Kerry!

Edwards probably would have won the nomination except he has no foreign policy experience.

I thought Obama talked about one America, and Edwards was the two Americas person?

I think Edwards is a very strong candidate.

Actually they both did. Obama talked about a consevative America and a liberal America, and how it should be one.

THanks,

I agree! It was a very impressive speech. It won me over completely. Great article. And I apologize for being late in saying it, but welcome to JoeUser.
